History
The concept of Japanese head spas originated in Japan and can be traced back centuries to the use of Japanese hot springs and bathhouses. Harnessing minerals renowned for detoxifying the hair and skin to cleanse the scalp and improve hair growth; head spa treatments have long been integral to Japanese society.

By the late 20th century, hair salons started to offer specialised scalp treatments alongside conventional hair services, recognising the importance of scalp health in achieving beautiful hair.

In the 1990’s and early 2000’s, head spa treatments started to gain popularity as standalone services, driven by a growing awareness of holistic wellness and a desire to create a unique treatment that focused on scalp health and relaxation.

Over time, head spa treatments evolved to incorporate steaming machines for deeper product penetration and overall effectiveness.

Today, Japanese head spa treatments have gained international recognition, celebrated for their efficacy in scalp cleansing, enhancing hair quality, and offering a deeply relaxing experience.

Japanese head spa treatment
Japanese head spa offers a unique, state of the art, spa experience with one of the most innovative and exciting treatments available, brought to you by Hair and Nature. A hair and scalp treatment like no other, it incorporates a luxurious blend of traditional Japanese techniques and modern wellness practices for a multi-sensory approach.

Having grown rapidly since its inception, with ten distributors across Europe, Japanese head spa offers professional salons and spas an opportunity to add one of the fastest growing and profitable services to their treatment menu.

Typical Japanese head spa protocol
Begin each treatment with a consultation to assess the client’s hair and scalp condition. This can be performed visually or using the scalp scanner to magnify the scalp by around 600 times. Identifying areas of congestion, dryness, excess sebum and product build-up will enable you to create a bespoke head spa service for every client.

A typical, bespoke service looks something like this…

  • Consultation and scalp assessment
  • Soothing massage of the neck, décolletage and shoulders
  • Deep cleanse with purifying wash and scalp exfoliation
  • Relaxation under the rainbow shower
  • Hydrating hair mask and scalp massage
  • Steam session with aromatherapy oils

For the head spa experience, you will also need a shampoo, hair scrub and hair mask. You can choose the products you use, based on your clients’ hair type.

For normal hair, we recommend the following, but you can choose to use your own hair products.

N.B. Purified water is recommended for the steamer rather than tap water, to avoid limescale build up.

Highly profitable treatment
Each Japanese head spa treatment takes between approximately 45 and 90 minutes. One treatment recommended per month.

Based on a basic head spa service, with a minimum rate of around £85, at between 1 to 5 treatments per day, you could increase your salon or spa revenue from around £20,000 to £102,000 in just one year.

Anticipated return on investment is 6 weeks or less, and revenue per hour could be increased if additional treatments from your menu are included, such as facials, hand and foot care. For example:

Package includes:

  • Conditioning comb
  • Scalp massager (green)
  • Head massager (blue)
  • Disposable bamboo brushes x 20
  • Power bank
  • Deluxe steamer
  • Scalp scanner
  • Stool, black

  • Height: 600mm

Please note:

  1. We strongly recommend engaging with qualified plumber prior to ordering, and recommend a plumber installs the head spa bed. Ellisons is not responsible for installation, nor if the bed has been installed incorrectly.
  2. Taps on the pipes must be switched off at the end of each day, as well as the main sink taps.
  3. The scalp scanner plugs into an iPhone, iPad or laptop to view the results of the scan, which the therapist can use to show the client their progress.
  4. The scalp scanner must be stored in a clean, dry place.
  5. LED lights are powered by a low voltage portable power bank which sits neatly in the under storage of the couch.

Also available in the stone colourway.
