Corporate social responsibility
Our commitment to our community – how we care for and support our customers, our people, our partners and our planet.
Our community
Charitable causes
Our long-term commitment to Zoё’s Place Baby Hospice means we focus many of our fundraising efforts on supporting the care they provide for young children with life limiting conditions, and families who also benefit from the 24-hour support Zoё’s Place can provide. We hold regular coffee mornings and various initiatives to help raise money, and the money raised by our colleagues is matched by Ellisons each year. Since 2016, we have raised over £31,000 for the charity.
We also support Look Good Feel Better, a cancer charity that helps people deal with the physical and cosmetic effects of cancer. By donating beauty products and space at our head office every month, we enable the charity to help people who are on their cancer journey to feel empowered, motivated and confident.
Every Christmas, we also hold fundraising events for local charities, including donating to our local Coventry Foodbank. This not only enables us to support families and individuals who need it most, but also offers our team a moment to come together and support an initiative we care about.
"Zoe's Place has quickly become a lifeline. It offers us the precious gift of time."
Our social community
Our focus on supporting our community, from employees to stakeholders and customers, outside of philanthropic initiatives, highlights our efforts to operate in ways that enhance the societal experiences and wellbeing for our people and partners.
We regularly offer free team building, wellbeing and social initiatives through employee engagement events and treatments, ensuring our team has scheduled time to relax, reset and create bonds. We engage with and support our communities on social media, blogs and via our event programme, bringing together our hair and beauty professionals through education, training, constructive conversation and relationship-building.
Our people
We’re committed to investing in our employees and supporting their career aspirations. Our programme of personal development includes providing training for those looking to enhance their commercial and vocational skills in the professional hair and beauty industry, management and core skills training gives our team opportunities to grow and develop their knowledge and expertise.
We also work closely with our brands and suppliers to conduct regular training and knowledge exchange on products and treatments.
Our planet
Reducing our environmental impact
We have a cross departmental team focusing on sustainability across the business. Continuous improvement is embedded in our processes, ensuring we responsibly source our products and equipment. Our own brand products have minimum packaging, and we actively work with our suppliers to look at ways of reducing packaging and single use plastics.
Our delivery boxes are made from sustainably sourced cardboard with a fully recyclable lining, and we moved from plastic to paper packaging as part of our ongoing commitment to help look after the environment.
We set targets each year for waste management and reduction, and continually explore ways to reduce our carbon footprint. Since 2019, we have reduced local emissions by 40%.
Over the last few years, we have improved our main building with a new roof, warehouse doors and LED lighting, heavy focus on recycling, and we’ve installed charging points to allow drivers of electric vehicles to charge on site.
The importance of a thriving ecosystem
The health of our natural world is critical for our wellbeing, our society, the economy and the environment, so it’s vital we all demonstrate our support and our commitment to protect it.
Forests, wildflower meadows, oceans, rivers, soils, animals and insects offer us the essential services we need to prosper: cleaner air, food, fresh water, water for irrigation and power, goods and services, and cross pollination for flowers and crops.
Bees are vital to both ecosystems and human survival. Through pollination, they support plant growth, which in turn provides food and habitats for other species. Beekeeping plays a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity, stabilising ecosystems, and boosting food production. Besides the environmental impact, bees contribute to the economy by providing income for rural businesses beyond honey; beeswax, royal jelly and propolis, which are all critical for food and medicinal purposes.
That’s why we’re proud to support the Warwickshire Beekeepers Association. We sponsor a beehive, regularly buy their local honey, and host educational sessions to emphasise the importance to our team about supporting the environment, and the vital role of beekeeping in sustaining biodiversity and local economies.
Our partners
As well ensuring our supply partners comply with our policies on ethical trading globally, we pride ourselves on building sustainable partnerships over decades, based on trust and loyalty, allowing them to thrive within their own communities.
Modern slavery
The health of our natural world is critical for our wellbeing, our society, the economy and the environment, so it’s vital we all demonstrate our support and our commitment to protect it.
We have a modern slavery policy and work closely with our suppliers to ensure our products are ethically sourced and produced. View our full modern slavery statement.
